This average hours chart ranks the am law 200 by the average bono hours performed by their U.S.-based lawyers in 2021. Calculations are based on lawyer counts as of Dec. 31, 2021. Overall, most firms across the Am Law 200 saw a decline in pro bono hours in 2021, including in terms of average hours per attorney. But there still were several standouts, with 11 firms putting up more than 100 hours per attorney on average. Almost all of those ranked exceeded the 20-hour per-lawyer market standard.

This breadth of commitment chart ranks am law 200 firms by the percentage of their U.S.-based lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work in 2021. Calculations are based on lawyer counts as of Dec. 31, 2021. While many firms saw an increased number of attorneys raise their hands for pro bono work in 2020 in the height of the pandemic and a several social justice issues, fewer lawyers committed as much time to pro bono in 2021. An increase in client demand along with a return to office work is said to have led to some of that decline. Numbers are mixed so far in 2022.
