Republican state legislators in Texas have warned Sidley Austin the firm is breaking the law for reimbursing employees for out-of-state abortion costs. They also said they will introduce legislation to impose sanctions on law firms that pay for abortion travel costs.

Members of the Texas Freedom Caucus in a letter dated Thursday to Sidley Austin said it “appears the firm is complicit” in abortions performed in the Lone Star State before and after the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last month. The legislators promised to introduce legislation to impose “additional civil and criminal sanctions on law firms that pay for abortions or abortion travel.”
