William “Bill” Fenwick, a founding force behind Silicon Valley-born Fenwick & West, died on Oct. 4 in Palo Alto at age 83, the firm said.

The firm praised Fenwick as a “visionary” for prioritizing technology and innovation and the role it would play in transforming the legal field. His leadership “was deeply informed by his personal experiences” and included an egalitarian culture that differed from the hierarchical structure employed by most law firms at the time, the firm said.
