Michael Sussmann, a partner with Perkins Coie, was indicted Thursday on one count of making a false statement to the FBI during a 2016 meeting about purported ties between former President Donald Trump and Russia, a charge stemming from Special Counsel John Durham’s probe.

A source familiar with the probe said earlier Thursday that the lawyer would fight any indictment returned against him. Sussmann’s attorneys, a team from Latham & Watkins, on Wednesday suggested that any indictment against their client may be politically motivated. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Christopher “Casey” Cooper.
