The harsh spotlight now shining on the conservatorship that has controlled the affairs and finances of Britney Spears for the past 13 years has also illuminated some Big Law names.

On Tuesday, days after a hearing in California state court in which the former teen idol accused her father, her management and the California legal system of “exploiting her life,” Spears’ own lawyers—solo practitioner Sam Ingham as well as Loeb & Loeb trust and estate litigation co-chairman David Nelson—filed to resign as counsel. The conservatorship—and the #FreeBritney movement—has cast fresh scrutiny on the role of lawyers who have sought hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees in the case.
