In the midst of one of the most contentious elections in U.S. history, complicated by a pandemic that raised numerous legal issues, Big Law stepped up to ensure the integrity of the election and protect the rights of voters heading to the ballot box—or the post office.

Several firms hosted or staffed election hotlines to offer assistance to voters with questions or concerns. Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner worked with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to prevent the expulsion from Georgia’s rolls of more than 14,000 voters who had been engaged by nonprofits in get-out-the-vote efforts in the weeks before the general election. When the city of Philadelphia faced challenges seeking to stop the full vote count, it turned to DLA Piper to secure a Third Circuit decision allowing the count to proceed.
