The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit sanctioned Perkins Coie election lawyer Marc Elias and other firm attorneys March 12 for violating ethical rules in a voting case, Texas Alliance for Retired Americans v. Hughs.

The court sanctioned Elias for lack of candor with the court after filing a supplemental motion nearly identical to a motion that had been previously denied by the court. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton put out a statement the evening of March 12 thanking the court for the sanctions.
