A top disputes partner in Linklaters’ Washington, D.C., office has quit the firm to rejoin the U.S. Department of Justice following the inauguration of President Joe Biden on Wednesday.

Matthew Axelrod exited the U.S. practice of Linklaters to join Biden’s administration on a permanent basis, according to a Linklaters representative. It was not clear, however, what specific role he would take in the department. The news comes the same day it was reported that a top Latham lawyer will lead the DOJ’s criminal division.
