Mayer Brown is to merge with leading Hong Kong firm Johnson Stokes & Master. The deal will dramatically increase the U.S. firm's presence in Asia, handing it a seven-office network with a turnover of $160 million. The deal, according to Vice Chairman Paul Maher, will give Mayer Brown about 1,000 lawyers in the United States, 500 in Europe and 260 in Asia. The merger is part of the firm's three-year Asia strategy, which kicked off with the opening of a small office in Hong Kong at the start of the year.
