A Nassau County, N.Y., judge has rebuffed a man’s bid to slash or eliminate the $4,000-a-month in maintenance he owes his jailed ex-wife.

Although Scott May of Manhattan agreed to the payments in 2004 when he and Denise May were divorced, he argued that Ms. May does not need the money now that she is incarcerated for drug possession and her needs are being met by the state.
