It’s not quite a lateral. James Sandman, a partner in Arnold & Porter’s D.C. office specializing in risk avoidance and corporate responsibility, starts up a new job early next month — as the general counsel for D.C. Public Schools.

It’s a big switch for Sandman, who has spent three decades at Arnold & Porter, serving as managing partner between 1995 and 2005. (He’s also a former president of the District of Columbia Bar.)
