The Connecticut Supreme Court has ruled that people who make false statements to law enforcement authorities about co-workers, neighbors or others don't enjoy absolute immunity from defamation lawsuits. In a case involving a state worker's beef with his boss, the state Supreme Court determined that, "in view of the potentially disastrous consequences that may befall the victim of a false accusation of criminal wrongdoing," qualified immunity applies to statements taken by police.
