Conventional wisdom in our profession is that law librarians are a graying population and that we are not recruiting enough new or young librarians to maintain our ranks. That wisdom may be slightly true for academic law library directors, but I think there are other factors that are also in play. All of these blend together to give us a perception of a crisis in hiring.

There is more demand for law librarians. My own school has added librarian positions to assist with technology (electronic services) and provide more service to both faculty and students. Law firms are hiring more librarians for their expertise with technology. Law libraries today offer more services that require the training and skills of librarians.
