Medtronic Inc. and Tyco International Inc. were turned down Oct. 1 in their efforts to get the Supreme Court to throw out two separate patent suits against them. The first case, involving medical device maker Medtronic, focused on how different a product has to be from a patented device to avoid infringing the patent. The justices also refused to hear an appeal brought by subsidiaries of Tyco International, which were sued in 2001 by Medrad Inc. for patent infringement.
