Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. said it will appeal a federal court verdict that its multi-axial pedicle screws, used in spine surgery, infringe on a patent licensed to Johnson & Johnson.
The company said a federal jury in Boston found in favor of Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Spine and awarded $226.3 million in damages. Medtronic said the verdict is not yet final and depends on post-trial rulings, but the company is otherwise planning an appeal.
