London’s growing band of U.S. law firms are once again in the market for serious expansion. Legal Week‘s annual survey of U.S. firms in London reveals 47 percent of respondents would consider a merger with a U.K. firm in the future, up from 39 percent last year and 29 percent in 2005.

This greater willingness on the part of U.S. firms to state their merger ambitions to the U.K. legal community perhaps comes as recognition of how hard it is for foreign firms to grow organically in the expensive City of London legal market, which by some measures is now the most costly in which to operate in the world.
