To beef up violent crime prosecutions, U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta in Miami is forming a special 10-lawyer unit to let some of his veterans focus on south Florida's burgeoning problems of gangs and violent crime. Acosta says the unit will keep experienced prosecutors on major criminal cases. But one federal prosecutor says the unit is being formed to entice prosecutors to stay at the U.S. Attorney's Office, which has been plagued with high turnover due at least partly to stagnating salaries.
