A former Big Firm Cog e-mailed me recently to lament about leaving the safe womb of Mother Big Firm for the harsh, risky and lonesome path of the solo practitioner — the single shingle.
His e-mail said little else, other than that he was trying to find a way back into the bosom of the Big Firm. But I gathered that he wanted others to be warned not to make the same mistake. So, as a public service to all you Big Firm Cogs out there, I am here to pass along the message from Mr. Former Big Firm Cog turned Solo Shingle Guy: It’s lonely out there.
