Simma has served his sentence and is now being detained by immigration officials. But what makes his case unique, according to one of his pro bono attorneys, is that he is a U.S. citizen being held illegally. In their attempts to get him out of jail, Simma's lawyers are using the same federal statute highlighted in a major enemy combatant case at the U.S. Supreme Court.
