In a split opinion, a Florida 4th District Court of Appeal panel removed Broward Circuit Judge Charles Kaplan from the juvenile delinquency case of a 14-year-old based on Kaplan’s remarks comparing the defendant’s dress and appearance to the two teenage mass killers at Columbine High School in Colorado.

The opinion was supported by 4th District Judges Larry Klein and Robert Gross. Judge Barry Stone dissented.
