A federal judge has awarded Takeda Pharmaceutical $16.8 million in a patent infringement case. The Southern District of New York judge, in Takeda Chemical Industries v. Mylan Laboratories , said the defendant generic drug companies acted with "exceptional misconduct and bad faith" by attempting to infringe on Takeda's patent on a chemical compound used in the treatment of diabetes. She ordered Mylan to pay $11.4 million in fees and Alphapharm to pay $5.4 million.
