After years of trying narcotic and gang cases, two San Francisco federal prosecutors have left the country looking to try defendants in a bigger forum. Philip Kearney and Karen Beausey have both taken one-year leaves of absence to prosecute war crimes in The Hague, trying government officials accused of crimes against humanity in the former Yugoslavia. For Kearney, it's a return to Eastern Europe; he has written a book based on his experience prosecuting war crimes for the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.
