Although not an immigrant himself, he didn't know much about those issues until he started doing the show in 2000 -- he focuses on plaintiffs' and workers' compensation and business law at Atlanta's Perales & Fernandez. "There is a lot of hyperbole that is creating a lot of damage in the Hispanic community," he says. "That resentment is going to surface in 10 or 15 years when immigrants' kids come of age and start voting."

Ralph Perales is an unlikely talk show host. He went to law school intending to be a patent lawyer but now hosts a Spanish-language TV show that explains how U.S. law works.
He started “Leyes Cotidianas,” or Everyday Law, six years ago with funding from the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation because he saw a need for a show that educates recent Hispanic immigrants about their legal rights and responsibilities, he said.
