The U.S. Supreme Court has turned down a national rent-to-own company's appeal from a New Jersey ruling that permits a consumer class action to proceed against it. The justices denied a petition for certiorari by Rent-A-Center Inc., of Plano, Texas, contesting retroactive effect of the decision that its transactions are subject to the New Jersey Retail Installment Sales Act. The New Jersey Supreme Court had ruled that rent-to-own agreements flouted the state's usury law.
