Michigan Democrats, in the majority in that state's House for the first time since the late 1990s, announced on the first day of the 2007-08 legislative session that they're introducing a bill to facilitate lawsuits against drug companies. The measure would repeal a 1996 law that protects drug makers from most liability suits if their product has been approved by the FDA. Supporters of the repeal say Michigan is the only state that gives drug companies immunity when their products harm consumers.

Democrats in the Michigan state House, in the majority for the first time since the late 1990s, didn’t waste much time announcing legislation dealing with two of their top priorities.
Democrats said they are introducing bills aimed at making it easier to sue prescription drug companies and to restrict the importation of Canadian trash. The announcement came on the first day of the 2007-08 legislative session.
