In a patent dispute between companies that manufacture radio frequency identification products known as "smart tags," a federal judge in North Dakota has refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Alien Technology against competitor Intermec. Intermec had asked the judge to dismiss the case because three Intermec businesses were separate and produced little or no business in the state. The judge rejected that argument, saying the three Intermec companies operate as one.
