Small law firms are trying to hold their ground in the fast-changing markets of central and eastern Europe -- with a little help from their friends. In recent years a range of law firm alliances have sprung up across the region, which is awash with cross-border tax, M&A and competition work as governments sell off state-owned assets and seek private contracts with suppliers. But competition is fierce in the more established markets like Prague, Vienna and Warsaw, and alliances are extending eastward.
