The partnerships of Pittsburgh-based Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham and Seattle’s Preston Gates & Ellis have approved a proposed merger between the two firms.

The votes took place Dec. 14, and the merger will go into effect Jan. 1, creating a firm of 1,400 lawyers and 21 offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
