St. Clair County, Ill.'s chief judge has temporarily stepped down pending the outcome of charges against another judge who allegedly was driving drunk when the two were in a wreck that injured another motorist. Chief Judge Jan Fiss, 64, was a passenger Dec. 3 in newly elected Circuit Judge Patrick Young's SUV when it collided with a pickup truck, police said. Fiss, who police said was seen dumping out an open beer and trying to hide a beer can after the wreck, was not charged.
