They represent rice farmers in Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri who claim the rice market was hurt after a strain of genetically engineered rice was accidentally released from test plots in the United States.

Arkansas is the best place to try a group of 13 lawsuits over the accidental spread of genetically altered rice because the state is the country’s biggest rice producer, a lawyer from Little Rock, Ark., told federal judges Thursday.
But another attorney argued on behalf of St. Louis as a better site for a trial, because judges there are familiar with issues involved in genetically altered seeds.
