Barring intervention by the Administrative Office of the Courts, high-stakes litigators in San Francisco will see a new face behind the bench in the complex litigation department next summer.

Judge Richard Kramer, for now the only complex litigation judge in San Francisco Superior Court, is slated for a transfer to a general civil trial department in July, according to a list of new judicial assignments released Wednesday by incoming Presiding Judge David Ballati. Ballati picked Judge John Stewart, who now oversees felony trials at the Hall of Justice, to take Kramer’s place.
