Attorneys have filed a second lawsuit in U.S. courts arising from the Sept. 29 air crash in Brazil in which 154 people were killed. The suit, filed in a U.S. district court in New York on behalf of plaintiff Suellen de Abreu Lleras, names as defendants ExcelAire Service Inc., its two pilots and Honeywell International Inc., maker of the ExcelAire plane's transponder. The complaint alleges that the transponder, intended to send out signals about the plane's location, failed to function properly.

A second U.S. law firm has filed a lawsuit against the operator of a business jet involved in Brazil’s deadliest air disaster, alleging pilot negligence led to the accident.
The complaint, a copy of which attorneys gave The Associated Press, cites ExcelAire Service Inc. of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., and its New York pilots, Joseph Lepore and Jan Paladino, as well as Honeywell International Inc., saying its “defectively designed” equipment contributed to the crash.
