A jury has awarded $387.4 million to Citgo Petroleum Corp. in a lawsuit stemming from a 2001 fire that started when a pipe fitting burst at an Illinois refinery. The Cook County jury determined that Babcock & Wilcox Co., the manufacturer of the pipe fitting, was 45 percent responsible for the accident. Jurors assigned 15 percent of the blame to Citgo and 40 percent to Unocal Corp., the refinery's previous owner. Citgo filed the suit against Babcock & Wilcox in 2003 to recover repair costs and lost profits.
