This past spring, solo criminal defense attorney Michael Studebaker packed up his family from their home in Utah so they could watch him argue his first case before the U.S. Supreme Court. Though he lost the argument and received criticism from scholars and Supreme Court attorneys who felt he lacked the experience to argue before the court, his career has definitely come a long way for a lawyer who took on his first client just five years ago and still gathers most of his business from the Yellow Pages.

After watching the argument, Studebaker’s 10-year-old son drew up his rendition of the high court. The picture shows a stick figure of his father facing the justices, and all the way to the left, he has one justice frowning.
