While most new partners are focused on building a book of business, Reed Smith’s Nick Elliot was pondering spending most of his first year as partner working in-house for a new acquisition of firm client Rhone Capital.

The specialty chemicals company Almatis was previously under the helm of Alcoa before Alcoa sold it to Rhone Capital. Now out on its own, there are a few elements missing, including a legal department.
