A federal judge in the Western District of Washington has sanctioned an attorney and his law firm for sending dozens of "fill-in-the-blank" demand letters and filing cookie-cutter patent infringement complaints on behalf of a client, Eon-Net, a patent holding company. U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman found that Eon-Net's scattershot patent enforcement strategy violates Federal Circuit Rule 11, and that the company's behavior was tantamount to extortion.
