Reed Smith is poised to make good on its plan to enter the Chicago market. The Pittsburgh-based firm has entered into an agreement in principle with 140-attorney Sachnoff & Weaver to combine their practices. The two firms' partnerships are expected to vote in November on the plan, which, if approved, would go into effect March 1. Reed Smith will have more than 1,300 lawyers after its Jan. 1 merger with London-based Richards Butler; combining with Sachnoff & Weaver would create a firm of about 1,500.
