Sony Corp. and Bertelsmann AG have asked the European Union’s top court to reverse a decision rescinding their music joint venture, the court said Thursday.

The appeal to the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice comes nearly three months after a lower court overturned the European Commission’s July 2004 approval of the deal creating SonyBMG Music Entertainment. It was the first time that court had annulled a merger clearance.
