The owner of a sizable fast-food sandwich empire purportedly suffers from anxiety so severe that a recent court order to testify in a landlord-tenant dispute instead resulted in a trip to a Brooklyn emergency room.

Following the hospital visit for undisclosed symptoms, Nicholas Lagano Jr., president of two corporations that own approximately 400 Blimpies restaurants, requested that Manhattan Justice Carol Robinson Edmead substitute his deposition testimony in lieu of an appearance as a witness.
