Chip maker Micrel Inc. said last week it will pay IBM nearly $2.1 million for a license to the company's "large portfolio of patents." Under the agreement, the companies licensed to each other all patents issued or pending on patent applications entitled to an effective filing date before Jan. 1, 2012. Final accounting hasn't been determined, but Micrel said it expects most of the payment to be recognized over the term of the deal.
