New Jersey is a cheap place to register as a lawyer and will likely stay that way, even if a Supreme Court panel urges a fee hike as it hinted last year. Annual licensing fees have remained at $182 for the past three years for lawyers with three or more years of experience. That puts New Jersey in 41st place among other states, including the District of Columbia, and $120 below the national average, according to a survey by David Johnson Jr., director of the N.J. Office of Attorney Ethics.
