The California Supreme Court sided with a Beverly Hills hair model in a unanimous opinion Monday that simultaneously reversed L.A.’s 2nd District Court of Appeal and bolstered the rights of day laborers throughout the state.
At issue was whether the state’s Labor Code governing “discharged” employees, i.e., those who had been “affirmatively dismissed” through termination or layoffs, also applied to workers hired for a select period of time.
