Unlike some other professionals, attorneys who practice alone are lucky to get away for one week a year. And when they do go on vacation, most can't just disappear to some remote hideaway. Instead, they travel with their phones, take client calls and check in with their offices at least once a day. Says one attorney: "When you call your medical doctor for your annual physical and they say they can't see you for three months, you say, OK. But legal clients? "They'll find another lawyer."
