When litigator Stanley S. Arkin received a congratulatory e-mail about a newspaper profile from Citigroup's CEO, he didn't think much of it. Fortunately for Arkin, neither did Judge Karen S. Smith, even though the e-mail came as Arkin was representing an ex-Citigroup senior executive who was challenging his termination. Smith dismissed malpractice claims against Arkin, but his ongoing dispute with the client offers a rare glimpse into how Wall Street resolves disputes and how big-name lawyers get paid.
