Gae Polisner and Christopher S. Jay say they're one of the few male-female divorce mediation teams in New York. They're also unusual among unregulated mediators because they've both attended law school. Polisner has a litigation background, and Jay continues to litigate matrimonial cases. Although lacking the laws or court rules that encourage divorce mediation in many states, New York has become more accepting of mediation as a faster, cheaper and more humane alternative to litigation.

The shortest divorce agreement that Gae Polisner and Christopher S. Jay mediated took just two weeks, start to finish.
The couple “had spent $63,000 in four months or so of litigation,” recalled Ms. Polisner, 41, the female half of Divorce Mediation Services in Huntington, N.Y. “Literally, they had a court date two weeks off. They said you’ve got two weeks to resolve this. To this day they seem pretty happy with their resolution.”
