Newman University has agreed to pay $182,500 to settle a sex discrimination lawsuit filed on behalf of its former dean of admissions, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Tuesday.

The agency sued Newman University in September, alleging the private Roman Catholic school violated the law when it refused to promote former dean of admissions Marla Sexson to her supervisor’s position because of her sex. The lawsuit also claimed the university retaliated against Sexson when she complained about the discrimination.
