An estimated 125 bands are touring the U.S. these days claiming to be The Platters, according to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. And the real Platters aren't the only group being mimicked. Jon "Bowzer" Bauman, former member of Sha Na Na and head of the hall's Truth in Music Committee, is working to pass legislation that would allow state attorneys general to stop impostor bands' performances with an injunction and seek civil penalties of up to $15,000 against such groups and those who promote them.
