In an effort to help lawyers juggle work and their personal lives, Joan Haratani, the president of the Bar Association of San Francisco, has launched a task force that hits firms where they'll feel it most: their wallets. The task force points out that replacing a second-year associate can cost $200,000 to $500,000. Unfortunately, many part-time programs that could alleviate burnout go unused because of the stigma attached to working fewer hours. Says Haratani: "This issue strikes a chord for everyone."
