Just before Christmas, while enjoying a week away from the office with my family, I was pleasantly surprised to find a present sent to me by a colleague. Unlike other presents under the Christmas tree, this one turned up in my e-mail inbox: “News: Alston & Bird and King & Spalding increase their associate salaries by roughly 15 percent across the board.” I have been pleased to see that a number of other prominent firms in Atlanta have followed suit.

I know most of you are probably thinking, “Of course you’re pleased that salaries have risen! You’re a legal recruiter, and your fees will probably increase!” I must confess that my fees will indeed increase, and I’d be less than honest if I told you that this made me angry. After all, this is what I do for a living.
