Baker Botts is hoping to further expand in Asia with an office in Beijing. The 716-lawyer firm, which opened an office in Hong Kong last year, has filed an application for a license to open its first mainland China office. A Beijing office makes sense for Baker Botts' energy practice, according to partner Stuart Schaffer. "Just about anybody we expect to do work in China for would prefer that we have an office in China," he says.
